Worried

I just learned that my good friend Det is seeking refuge at her neighbor's. I've been wondering about her and my cousin Ate Laila since yesterday because they both live in Cainta, which is badly flooded. They are offline FB which is unusual. I can't get any SMS out and can't reach out to them.

Medyo nag panic yata ako. As soon as I heard about Det, my heart raced. I emailed DZMM and sent Det's address to ask for rescue. I asked friends to contact the mobile number of a chopper rescue team too. After around an hour I realized that Det is on the second floor of a neighbor's house, and not on the roof of a neighbor's house, which is what I pictured initially. I think I may have overreacted. But I'm still worried about her.

Det I am praying for you and your family and hope that you have at least some food and water up at the second floor.

Sunday Plans

They were supposed to spend Sunday together.

She took a leave from work and waited for him. At 2:00PM he wasn’t there. At 6:00PM he wasn’t there yet. At 8:00PM she was upset and went out to meet a friend who was there for her in such short notice.

He was asleep the entire day.

At 8:12PM he sent her a message and said “I’m sorry, I’ll go home now.” At 9:47PM he said that his mom wouldn’t let him leave, but he will come home. At 11:21PM he was still where he had been the last 24 hours. His mother’s house.

She arrived home at 10:30PM. She finally opened the door to him before 1:00AM. What else was left to do? She had wasted her leave. She had not had any sleep since coming home from the previous day’s shift.

For the remaining hours, he made her cry and made her laugh. He made breakfast. They ate. She went to sleep right after.

That was how they spent Monday morning.

Post Script

It is reassuring to know that you have someone who will be there for you right when you need her. Thanks Det for running out of the house on a Sunday evening to grab coffee with me. I know you probably thought it was one big emergency, but no. It’s just one of those days when you feel like screaming because things of significance to you are deemed insignificant by no less than the person you love most. Don’t worry, were okay. I’m just pissed (still).

I'll Be Okay

Tonight I met up with Det for coffee.

God, she gets thinner every time we see each other. She is currently at 123 lbs. She must have weighed 180 lbs. almost two years ago, right Det?

I am just amazed and proud of what she has accomplished (though I’m bothered, that her role model is alleged anorexic, Nicole Ritchie).

I remember how depressed she was when I was still pregnant. Back then, Denver and I were still renting an apartment across her home. I saw how distressed she was about a break up, and I remember telling her how she should toughen up and put all her effort in making herself beautiful. I personally think that vanity is one of the many outlets one can exploit to find a way out of depression.

Before meeting up with Det, I swore to myself that I would keep mum about my depression. I ended up giving her a blow-by-blow account of the shittiest three months of my life.

Although I am fine now, seeing how Det is today, and looking at how she has evolved, gives me confidence. I saw her at her worst, and I see her at her best now. It might take some time, but I know I will be better.

I'll be okay.
